Several years ago, I went to the east beach on the 4th of July, the fee that day was either $7 or $8. I went there again the very next day, July 5, and was told the fee was $10. I told the money collector I was not a tourist and I knew the fee was less. I thought he was just going to pocket the extra money. He advised me it was because they were having a special event and that required an additional fee. I paid it, but went looking for Mr. Flores who was in charge of that beach area at the time. The event was a wet tee shirt contest sponsored by a Houston radio station, oh and a band. I had a 5 year old grandson with me, and I assured Mr Flores that I had no intention of letting him anywhere near his club/snackbar and I wanted my money back. I guess to shut me up he gave me the extra fee I had paid to park that day. I reported him to Myer Reisworth, and he was upset beacause Flores should have notified the Park Board of this event, but he didn't. He did not have permission from anyone, he just did it. There's no telling how many times this happened. The receipt you receive is not numbered, so there is no way to tell if the Park Board even received all of the money that was or is collected each day. In addition there was no sign, banner, etc. advertising the special event. Guess it wasn't that special!
