19th Century Waffle Iron is Rosenberg Treasure of the Month The Rosenberg Library Museum will feature a 19th century waffle iron, originally belonging to Samuel May Williams, as the September Treasure of the Month. Donated by the estate of Thomas Jefferson League in 1923, this waffle iron design was first patented in 1869.
"Pieces of the Past" Now On Display at GHF Headquarters What do a black-and-white coal miner's quilt, an international flag tobacco-silk quilt, a Texas Two-Step quilt with a backing made from feed sacks, and a red album-block friendship quilt have in common? They are all part of the private collection of quilter and collector Rebekah Williams Cessna, of Missouri City. She has loaned 43 of them to Galveston Historical Foundation for its quilt exhibit, "Pieces of the Past: The Rebekah Cessna Quilt Collection," which is now on display at at GHFÄôs headquarters in the 1861 U.S. Custom House.
Weekly Walking Tours of The Strand Coming Each Saturday This Summer Each Saturday thru Labor Day, new Strand walking tours will begin at 9am and last approximately one hour. Meet-up will be at GHF's downtown Le Clere building at 2417 Strand and will commence down the street five blocks, ending at Hendley Row, a pre-Civil-War group of buildings located at 20th and Strand.
